Teddy Roosevelt once said. "far better is it to dare mighty thing, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a grey twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.
This past January the doctor hit me with a diagnosis that was a real game changer that culminated in the decision to step down from leading the church that I had been serving for over 8 years. This caused no small storm in the church and things went downhill from there. Two weeks ago the dream died when after all the years of sowing love and faithfulness we were forced to shut the doors. I don't know if you've ever suffered the death of a dream. Some have never enjoyed the life of a dream because fear has always kept you locked down. So here is the question today...what do you do when the dream dies?
If you were truly invested in the dream you will cry. I'm a 57 year old grown man. The father of 5 grown children. I have experienced the death of a parent, a grandparent, and a brother but last week I wept like a baby. I don't know which one of the stages of grief that is, but it's in there somewhere. Proverbs says that when the dream comes it's a tree of life, but when a dream dies it's like a black hole. I'm not sure how long you cry, but you do it without thought and it can come like a flood, but it is temporary. The Bible says that "weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning." Ps. 30:5 This is good news for me because it says that the crying and pain that come when the dream dies are only temporary and there is still coming in my direction. If you are hurting today because your dream died then there are three things that you must do. 1. You will cry
2. You will hurt and experience the pain of loss.
3. You will dream another dream.
Pain is not permanent.
Failure is not final.
If your dream has died...you can dream another dream. Joy can still come in the morning. If you have fallen down you will cry and hurt but get back up and keep pursuing God. He will give you a new dream.
